Watching Whales and Dolphins

Last updated on 18 May 2023

Tourism has been on the rise in Sri Lanka since the end of its long period of instability in 2009. Among the fastest-growing tourism sectors in the country is the whale-watching industry, which is gaining international recognition for its opportunity to observe blue whales in at least two locations between December and July. While other species of whales and dolphins are also occasionally spotted during these cruises, blue whales are the most frequently sighted.
